I know it sounds kind of cliche, but I was sitting on a park bench around 10pm at night.
The park closed at sundown, so I was technically trespassing, however I didn’t care.
Frankly, there was a part of me that wanted the police to come arrest me.
I had been drinking that night. I got a bottle of Woodford Reserve, my favorite whiskey at the time.
Drinking, trespassing, sitting on a park bench at night, alone…
I was ashamed to be there. I was ashamed at how my life was in shambles.
I thought to myself, “I’m a doctor for christ sake! How am I sitting here like a bum! What if one of my colleagues sees me? What if I get arrested?”
“Hell, I hope I get arrested. It would be the perfect end to this shitstorm of a life I have!”
I was in a terrible relationship. It was truly a nightmare.
My then, wife suffered from narcissistic personality disorder. I know you see the word narcissist thrown around alot online.
I am talking about a real, actual, clinical diagnosis. And people who have it do suffer…
But they also make everyone around them suffer unbearably!
We had just gotten into another fight over nothing. She punched me in the jaw, and it took everything I had to retaliate in kind.
Of course that would’ve been the wrong thing to do, but when you’ve been with someone like her for 12 years, the frustration builds until it takes everything you have not to explode.
I stormed out of the house. Angry! Confused!
Honestly not sure that I wasn’t the cause of the problem. You see, she was a master at blaming me for everything. The common term for it is gaslighting…
And after more than 10 years of being subjected to it I didn’t know if I could even believe my own mind.
I was sitting on the bench, drunk, questioning every decision I had ever made…
And wondering if I should just end it all. I couldn’t leave my wife and I couldn’t stay.
My work was suffering, and I couldn’t allow myself not to be 100% on point. The people I was seeing trusted me with their health.
If I couldn't trust my mind how could I trust myself to help them?
Add to that my money problems. I was still paying off massive student loans…
But I felt like I needed to keep up with other doctors - so I bought a big house, drove fancy cars…
And I had to keep up with my wife’s spending. She loved retail therapy. And there was hell to pay if I ever said anything about it.
“You wouldn’t be anywhere without me! I’m the reason you’re a doctor! I’m the reason you have everything you have! You’re a worthless piece of shit and without me you’d still be in that run down studio apartment chugging beers every night!”
I know it seems hard to believe, but that’s the kind of thing this woman who claimed to love me said whenever she got mad.
I just deflated when I thought how much she was going to spend tomorrow because of this fight.
We were living on credit cards and barely getting by.
I chugged some more whiskey straight from the bottle, and started to cry.
Suddenly I heard an elderly woman’s gentle voice say to me, “It’s going to be ok, honey. It’s all going to be ok.” and I felt a hand rub my back.
I almost jumped out of my skin! I thought I was the only one in the park.
I looked and there was a gray haired woman sitting next to me. I knew when I looked at her that she had to be in her 80’s.
She was smiling the most radiant smile I have ever seen, and her whole body seemed to glow.
“Where did you come from?” I slurred while gasping for air.
I think I almost had a heart attack.
Then suddenly a feeling of peace washed over me and I felt at ease.
All of my fear and grief and shame just vanished as I looked at this beautiful, motherly woman’s smile.
She patted the bench next to her and said “Sit down sweetie, let’s have a talk.”
I sat down and took my hand and patted it like grandmothers do when calming a child…
“I know you’ve had a rough go of things for a while, but I want you to know you can end it as soon as you want to.”
I started crying again when I responded, “No I can’t. I can’t afford to live right now. If I divorce her the alimony will just crush me! I’m stuck! And I don’t think I can take it anymore.”
She smiled the way a wise person does when they are talking to someone who doesn’t understand yet.
“Oh sweetie. You aren't stuck. You are sticking yourself. You can free yourself anytime you want. Let me explain…”
This woman went on to share the incredible story of her life.

She just waved back at me and entered the treeline.
I got up and ran to catch up with her…
But when I made it to the treeline she was gone.

Disappeared?
I dumped the rest of the whiskey out, and sat on that park bench for hours just processing what just happened.
Like I said, I wasn’t even sure that I could even trust my own mind at that point, but I had a long conversation with this woman.
But she looked like she was glowing? What was that about?
As I sat there, I started thinking about leaving my wife.
I knew I wanted to but I wasn’t sure how. I wasn’t sure if I could.
But then I thought of Helen…

My attorney told me it was the most amazing thing he had ever seen.
I also got a promotion at work. It just seemed everything that needed to go my way did.
The people in management of the practice that didn’t love me left, and the people who replaced them thought I was the cat’s pajamas.
On top of that, my performance skyrocketed without the constant stress at home.
I got the counseling I needed to leave the “trauma bond” to my, now, ex-wife behind. (It’s a very interesting part of human psychology that we can become bonded to that which hurts us)
When I was ready I started dating again. I had a picture of exactly the kind of woman I wanted to be with and I found her almost immediately.
“Now I know what you’re thinking, yeah that’s easy to say. You were just looking through rose colored glasses, Dr Elliot, because you didn’t want to be alone.”
At first I was concerned about that, but we’ve been together for more than 10 years now and it’s the most healthy, loving, fun, and interesting relationship I’ve ever had.

This is going to get a little geeky, but stick with me because I think it’s important that you hear it.
I know it might seem a bit confusing, but stick with me. By the time I’m done it will make sense.
Some people want to leave when they feel confused, but I urge you to resist that impulse.
Confusion is just the way it feels when your mind is trying to figure something out. If you leave, you won’t figure it out and your mind will not grow.
However, if you stay and work through it…
Your mind will stretch and grow, and you as a person will grow.

To explain how your mind actually molds and influences the world around you, we need to start with the double slit experiment.
In 1927 two revolutionary scientists, Clinton Davisson and Lester Germer, performed the Double Slit Experiment. It has been duplicated several times, so we know it’s real…
And the implications are shocking!
I don’t want to get into the weeds with you, because frankly it doesn’t matter. You can find it online if you are interested in all the details.
The important part of the experiment is that electrons, the smallest particles in an atom, act like matter in the experiment when the scientists are watching or recording the experiment taking place.
However, when they run the experiment without watching or recording it, the electrons act like a wave, meaning they exist in several different realities at the same time.
I know that seems impossible, but it is possible, and it’s real. It’s called quantum superposition.
That’s just a fancy way of saying that all possibilities are happening at one time.
But when the scientists watch, it creates a quantum wave collapse and all the possibilities collapse into one single reality.
I know that seems really odd, and it is. But it’s true…
And the implications of that are shocking! It means the scientist's interaction with the experiment changed the universe at the smallest level.
Just watching changed everything.
That, by itself, doesn’t prove that we can intentionally change the world around us…
But it proves, without question, that our presence affects the world around us.
Now the question is - can we impose our will on how things unfold?
Let's set the double slit experiment to the side for just a minute and we'll get back to it. At this point, just remember, the electrons existed in quantum superposition, which means every possibility was happening at the same time, and that when we are looking at them it creates a “quantum wave function collapse.”
Now we need to prove whether we can intentionally change how the “quantum wave function collapses” happen, so that we can mold the world to what we want it to be.
For that we need to check in with Dr. Dean Radin.
Dr Radin points out that when we simply “wish” for an outcome it can affect the outcome of random number generators.
Since the 60's one experiment has been repeated over and over again. Scientists would take a random number generator, which generates random bytes or 1's and 0's.
When run normally, the generators would create approximately 50% 1's and 50% 0's.
Scientists then told people to try and get the generator to produce more 1's or more 0's.
The question is, does it affect the generators when someone wishes for more 1's or 0's.
When evaluating all the data...the answer is clearly, YES!
If someone wishes for more 1’s the random number generator produces more 1’s. And not just a few more. Enough so that it’s not just random variance.
Same thing happens when the person wishes for more 0’s.
This experiment has been run over and over again in the last 60 years, and scientist keep fetting the same result…
What we want affects the outcome.
In short, people imagined something they wanted, used their conscious mind to focus on that outcome, and the universe made that outcome a reality.
